Our latest Carbon Weekly report has now been published, reviewing activity in the Australian and international carbon markets for the period December 2 – 6 2024.
The Australian carbon market saw a rebound in activity last week, with traded volumes more than doubling week-on-week, led by spot volumes and continuing demand for Generic No-Avoided Deforestation ACCUs. Notably, volatility remains high, with analysis of key metrics indicating that the balance between active sellers and buyers continues to fluctuate. This imbalance saw our Generic (Benchmark) assessment decline on the week, while our HIR ACCU assessment followed suit. Meanwhile, derivatives activity recovered, with above average volumes traded across forward and options markets, while one of the more closely watched ACCU methodologies saw record issuance.
In this Carbon Weekly report, we analyse recent activity in the Australian and international voluntary carbon markets, including our ACCU spot price assessments, method spreads, forward activity, and traded volumes.
